"It was the best of times, it was the worst of
times; it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness; it was
the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity; it was the season
of Light, it was the season of Darkness; it was the spring of hope, it
was the winter of despair; we had everything before us, we had nothing
before us; we were all going directly to Heaven, we were all going the
other way."-Charles Dickens.

This quote randomly popped into my head it seems, and I thought...in very few ways could one sum up the life in which we all now exist. For it would seem that for every individual bent on improving mankind's way of existence...that there are ten others desperately searching for ways to bring as much fear, chaos, and despair as possible. We are all now within an age in which very few still hold true to past ideals of honor...and putting the betterment of others before oneself.

The ideal that the purpose of life is to bring light to the world, to be a source of optimism and joy when times are harsh. That you could bring unending joy and happiness to those who cross your path.
But sadly, such ideals no longer hold true within our societies. Mankind has lapsed into an ideal that those with money are those that matter.

That bringing joy and happiness to those around is nothing compared to living comfortably.

That putting others first would be a sign of weakness.

That self-sacrifice would be laughed at!

We live in a day and age where for every man bent on improving our lives there are ten more equally focused on bringing as much pain, chaos, and despair as they possibly can.

That for each new cure, there are ten new viruses capable of killing thousands.
For each plane, ten missiles; for each engine, ten new machines of war. For everything good in life, it would seem that there were an infinite number more silently waiting to bring everything you hoped for crashing down around you.

That for every brilliant idea, there are thousands more who would take that idea and turn it for harm.

The thought that for every peaceful invention there are but hundreds more designed for creating death and decay...the very thought would seek to crush an individuals hope in a future...

And as the men of old predicted a future where mankind would live in peace and prosperity, we have found thousands of ways to take that dream...and twist it into an abomination.

It's all I can manage to push such thoughts away, as I do everything in my power to embrace life. To be as charitable and kind as I can muster. To live up to my word, to put others first, to love and to be loved. To attempt to bring joy and laughter in my wake.

For if there are a thousand who would seek to bring death and destruction...than, hopefully...it would mean that there are a hundred doing everything in their ability to right the wrongs of this world.

That even though you would stand outnumbered...that you would stand.

To be a beacon for those around you...a light in a vast darkness, capable of raising the hopes of the forgotten and the ruined. For when the last truly kind individual ceases to exist...it will be an eternity before light ever again fills this world.

It is for this reason that I do what I do. That I give to others at my own expense...that I would seek not to judge, but to embrace what little genuine care and goodness is left in this world. For that as long as I do whatever I can to raise the spirits of those around me...it would mean that there is at least one last hope in this broken shell of a world...

For those that would laugh at me, I love you out of pity.

For those that would join me, I love you out of respect.
Something I realized in myself, about what I wanted to do, the impact I wanted to leave.
